Sydney to Lakes Entrance - 730 kms 9:30 hours.
As usual, I am late getting out - it is nearly 10 AM. As I am taking the long route, I am hugging the coast on the way to Lakes Entrance. I stopped at a few places along the way.
Travelling along the coast meant traffic jams at every town and getting stuck behind caravans. It was the holidays after all. Once I was off the coast, around Cobargo, the road started clearing up. After that it was plain sailing. It started raining a bit but with no traffic, that was not a problem.
It wasn't long after that I entered Victoria. There was still plenty of light. I have heard about drivers in Victoria getting ticketed for speeding by even 2 kph. I kept well below the limit. Some of the road seemed to bring back memories of travelling through the National Forest sometimes when it was light and at other times it was dark. It is a gentle curving road with trees on either side and occasional traffic in the opposite direction. You rarely cross someone going in the same direction.
I reached Lakes Entrance by 8:45 PM. It was still not dark but most kitchens were closed by this time.
I pulled out the dashcam and checked the contents. I had a 64GB card but it was not only full but the old files were already getting overwritten. Also, the files are stored as 1 minute segments. I copied the whole lot off the camera on to a hard disk. This is a ritual I will have to do every day. I also reduced the resolution to 720p to reduce the storage requirements. Trying to find something on the day's video is a lost cause with so many files. I do need some way of making a single video out of it. Even then, going through 8+ hours of video sounds like a big ask.
Next morning, I could appreciate the surroundings better. Though it was time to get on the road, I did stop to take some pictures.
